The film is generally good, but I expected it to be darker and scarier rather than comedic.
Adams is undeniably great
Although I am not currently a parent, I can fully relate to the themes presented. If you have questions about motherhood and female rage, this film could be insightful. Also, the script is well-written; some of the characters’ dialogue is very clear. Marielle Heller is definitely a talented director who can adapt a seemingly impossible book into a successful film. This is the best performance we’ve seen from her so far, and possibly the best performance we’ve seen this year.

She’s fierce, brave, and funny. She’s really committed to this role. The depth of her performance is evident in the complex details of her facial expressions, which beautifully convey her anger, joy, and pain. Adams embodies the role of a mother with an authenticity that leaves a deep impression, likely stemming from her own experiences as a real-life mother. This personal connection elevates her performance and makes it feel both relatable and authentic.
No, definitely not
I can’t help but feel a strong connection between her portrayal and my own mother, as if she captures the essence of maternal love and sacrifice in a way that really speaks to me. This film seems to be controversial so far. I’ve seen some people dismiss her performance, and many believe Adams shouldn’t win or even be nominated for this bizarre role. For me, acting awards are always based on performance, not movies. She is the vehicle of the film.
The passion should not disappear
She should definitely be nominated or even win. I hope more people can see and appreciate my points of view. Otherwise, Scoot McNairy is also fantastic. Despite some flaws, the film is worth watching.
